Valentine's Day and what it takes....

I've never really been a fan of Valentine's Day, it's just day before my birthday (also not my fave holiday!) and it's a hyped up, over sugared excuse to say you love someone....At least in my mind, but this year (Since I'm trying to put more effort into holidays for my kids) I thought I would surprise the family with a nice Valentine dinner! But before that the girls wanted to dress up for their school Valentine parties....

Ta Da!

They picked out their outfits together!

I bartered a suit mending for some fresh Alaskan King Crab legs and I knew they would be perfect with a lovely steak for dinner. So while The Hubs was at work the kids helped me set the table, and we pulled out the "nice dishes" and  had fun decorating!

The kids were all sitting at the table when Daddy came home, he was very surprised!

Our beautiful dinner; Roasted potatoes, garden salad with raspberry vinaigrette, new york steaks, king crab legs, with sparkling pomegranate "punch".

For dessert I had a cookie platter that didn't get photographed, but I made mint and dark chocolate cocoa with fresh whipped cream and for fun I added red sugar sprinkled on top! I cut out a heart shape of some scrap paper, and held the paper with the heart hole over the cup and sprinkled the sugar so it made this cute shape. I know I'm such a dork!

The dinner was a success. And maybe celebrating silly holiday isn't so bad after all...
