Some birds and bees...Literally!

Last year my husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary by buying our dream house. Yes, I know silly, but its true. and this year for the minor 11th year, we bought bees! Yup we are now the proud owners of 25,000 honey bees! 

After much talking and debating, where, and when and how. I made a bunch of calls and after one 5 hour workshop on beekeeping. they are here! We got two separate colonies from two different people. 

The first colony I picked up in this wood and mesh package.

We decided since the bees need space and wanted to keep kids and dogs safe, we put the hives in the fat back corner or the backyard. So far so good! You can see this is the first set up hive and the bees are going in and out happily.

You can see how dressed up the Hubs and I are for this! We now have veils and gloves for both of us.

Miss J wanted to give the bees more water. and she dressed the part. Bees are threatened by dark colors, that's why bee keepers wear white.

Miss E wanted to get a closer look at the hive. I'll post more photos over the next few months as they build up the comb and hives
