Growing Quinoa

We love having a garden, and have been busy this year, with all the work. Now we can watch it all grow! We have enjoyed having fresh veggies and now berries.
Every year I try a few new varieties of veggies, and this year (since we eat alot of it!) we are growing Quinoa and Amaranth. Now first, I started seeds indoors in march and planted 6 seeds and only 2 made it the garden bed....
Trial and error and all that. But the 2 that did grow are huge. You can see in the first photo the are in the closest bed, and look ALOT like lamb's quarters.

They are just over knee high and the father plant on the right is blooming. I'm not expecting to get much as far as the actual seeds, but I'm hoping to harvest the seeds for next years crop and maybe cook up a little, tiny bit this year!

Quinoa is one of those "super foods" its not really a grain but a seed and is loaded with protein. My kids love it and we eat it like oatmeal. I has a nutty flavor and a nice texture. It can also be eaten like couscous.
Here are some useful links that show you how to grow quinoa and tips for getting a bigger, better harvest.
This little baby is definitely going to be planted again next year! I'm going to need more beds for sure now!
