We have been waiting for months to see what kind of honey harvest we would have this year, and it was not one to disappoint!
The Hubs and I planned for a cooler day, I had everything prepped and ready to go as soon as he got home from work.
We had our suits our, a cooler and a storage bin with a lid to transport the frames full of honey.
This hive was not happy we were there, we worked quickly and as calmly as we could!
Since we don't have an extractor, we went over to one of our mentor's house. We're putting the frames into the extractor. We still had some stray bees come with us, so we put our suits back on.
The extractor has to be spun around and around, so we take turns spinning it.
We ended up draining 12 frames total between the two hives. Liquid gold!
After the jars are full, we can clean up and head back home...until next time!
The long awaited harvest! Three gallons and a cup! That is wax from the frames floating on the top of the honey in each jar. After this photo I scoop it up with a spoon and we use the wax for body creams and lip balms.
